Foundation 1 (Intro Course for Beginners)
Designed for the absolute Beginner and recommended that students repeat the course several times until they have a solid grasp of foundational skills before advancing to more challenging levels. You'll be learning the essential building blocks of Egyptian dance aka
Raqs Sharqi from the roots. Learn the proper posture, hip and upper body isolations, shimmies, belly work, basic footwork patterns and much more. This is a progressive course that builds week to week.

Beginner Technique & Choreography Course
There's nothing more exciting than learning your first Bellydance routine. Join seasoned Master teacher Joharah (founder of BellyUp) for an adventure into learning a Beginner level Bellydance
(Raqs Sharqi) routine. You'll learn the technique, the movements, the gestures plus plenty of important tips for self-expression and feeling. We'll put it all together into a beautiful choreography that you can be proud of and call your own. We'll have plenty of time to practice, polish and refine the routine and those students interested in performing it as a group can do so at an upcoming Bellydance Girl's Night show at the studio. Performing is of course not mandatory. You can learn the choreography just for the pure joy of it. Students will be given weekly practice videos, feedback and coaching plus the music and translation. Get ready for a fun and rewarding growth experience!

Foundation 2 for Beginners
After taking our Foundation 1 course at least one time (most students repeat several times) you can step into the next level of Beginner Foundation. We'll add more steps and movement to your vocabulary and strengthen your foundational technique even further.

The Ultimate Bellydance Drills Class (Foundation 2 to Int./Advanced level)
Don't be shy! Every dance student needs a solid practice class and this is it. Together we will drill, refine your movement vocabulary. We focus on quality of movement and developing your ear for the music. Every kind of movement from arms & hands, footwork, across the floor, Baladi and Raqs Sharqi styles and more. This class brings together dance students from Level 2 to Intermediate/Advanced who want to sweat, have fun and make improvements in their skills no matter what level you're at. Modifications will be given for all levels. Pre-requisite for this course is that you have completed a minimum of Foundation 1 & 2 with us.
Tuesdays
6:45-7:45pm. with Jo. Starts April 8th.
Bridge to Intermediate/Continuing Dancers - 90 Minute Intensive
Designed for the dance student who has built a strong foundation in our level 2 and advanced beginner level and is looking for more challenge and development. This course builds and expands on your foundational technique beyond the Beginner level preparing you for more advanced levels of complexity. We focus on broadening your movement and step vocabulary, quality of movement, musicality, tempos and rhythms, choreography and much more.

7:00-8:30pm. with Joharah. Starts April 9th.
Intermediate to Advanced - 90 Minute Intensive
Technique/Combos & Choreography
Jo teaches technique together with a wide range of fantastic, practical combos that can be used and varied in any number of Egyptian dance styles. Students work on footwork, weight shifting, transitions a wide range of body movements, use of arms and hands, face (gaze, head position, facial expression). Students learn how to adapt combinations to other styles, change their arm movements and adjust hip technique plus how to blend and mix combinations to create longer sequences. Every class introduces a variety of new combos and choreography.
Thursdays
6:45-8:15pm. with Jo. Starts April 10th.
Make-Up Classes:
Should you miss a class or two, each student is permitted 2 make-up classes to be taken during the 8 week session. Classes cannot be carried to future sessions. You can take any class on the schedule that is of the same duration as the class you registered for. In other words if you are registered for a 60 minute class, you can take any other 60 minute class on the schedule as a make-up class. If you are registered for a 90 minute class, you can take any other 90 minute class or 60 minute class on the schedule.
Holidays:
The studio will be open for classes on Easter Monday.
The studio will be closed on Victoria Day/May 19th. The session is extended until June 2nd for the make-up classes.
